Submission essentials

Every submission, from any competing country, must include the following:

  • A complete online submission form with the details of all competing team members
  • An executive summary which will be used throughout the competition to describe the design

In reference to the table above, the key deliverable must adhere to the marking criteria. It must also include:

  • The process your team went through to identify their design criteria.
  • The alternative options are considered during the design process.
  • The recommended design, addressing each of the marking criteria.
  • Justification for the recommended design based on your design criteria, in particular, how the selected design is appropriate to the social, environmental, economic, and cultural context of the community.
  • The long-term sustainability of the recommended design.
  • A visual representation such as drawings, images of prototypes, or other graphics are produced in the design process.
  • Any implementation plans (distribution, construction, operation) and maintenance or engineering work relating to the recommended design.
  • Outline the details of any external support provided to the design team and identify any content that is not attributable to the design team.
  • Contain a reflection on students’ learning/experience gained.
  • Your submission should be saved as a pdf/MP4 and the following file naming convention used: YourUniversity_TitleofTeamDesignProject_DesignSubmission.

Additional materials

Teams are encouraged to submit additional supporting material as part of their design submission. Reviewers will be instructed to base their assessment on the merit of the key deliverable alone. Any additional materials should only be used to complement the key deliverable.

Additional materials include:

  • Videos (MPEG/MP4)
  • Flyers/brochures (pdf)
  • User manuals (pdf)
  • CAD drawings/files (pdf)

Submission review process

The submissions will be assessed by a team of international reviewers using the marking criteria. The reviewer position is a voluntary role held by expert professionals within the field of engineering.

Reviewers produce feedback on the submissions. Feedback is returned to each team that submits a key deliverable.

Grand Finals

Once the submissions are reviewed, the top teams will be invited to attend and compete at a national Grand Finals. If you are invited, you will be sent additional instructions, including student guidelines for more information on what to expect and prepare, in addition to the opportunity to incorporate the feedback from the reviewers into your design ahead of the Grand Finals.
