Nashville artist Lauren Strahm, better known in the music world under the banner of Fleurie, continues to support her most recent album, 2018′s Portals — a fresh and airy 11-track pop effort that’s charted in over 20 countries since its August release.

Today, Fleurie premieres her brand new music video for Portals‘ penultimate track, “A World Beyond.” It’s a song that has almost anthemic builds, as if uplifting with encouragement, although the lyrics tell of a tough loss and the squall of emotions that come in tow.

“‘A World Beyond’ is one of the most personal songs on my album, Portals,” says Fleurie. “I wrote it about a friendship in my life that painfully and slowly severed as I tried to hang on. My friend, NYC-based film director Elle Ginter, and I wanted to make a video that took my fans to many different worlds as we captured the emotions of this song. There’s such an energy of tension and release in these lyrics and we wanted to capture the whiplash of the cycle of feeling in and then out of control in life and relationships.”

“Essentially, the film shows Fleurie trying to maintain connection with something she’s left behind while becoming simultaneously independent in her search for ‘a world beyond the world we know,’” explains director Elle Ginter. “Fleurie is an extremely multi-faceted artist who has this incredible ability to pass through different artistic and musical worlds almost effortlessly, so I wanted to show a coming-of-age in her relationship with time. Time is a personified character (Tony Award winning tap dancer, Caleb Teicher) whose movements drive Fleurie’s transitions between worlds,” she continues. “Fleurie was an incredible collaborator from the beginning; she has a strong sense of vision and core themes, and yet trusted me to explore abstract connections that I think allow a viewer to develop their own feelings and interpretation of the film.”
